Abstract


Objective: To investigate hydrocephalus (hydrocephalus, HDY) ventriculo - peritoneal shunt (Ventriculoperitoneal shunt, VP S) complications (Complications, COM) the causes and prevention measures for ventriculo - peritoneal shunt treatment levels , reduce complications. Methods: A retrospective analysis of our hospital in April 2005 -2010 in September , 185 cases of hydrocephalus VP shunt in patients with clinical data , the analysis of the causes and prevention of its complications . Results: Postoperative complications in 43 cases ( 23.24% ) , including 2 deaths (1.08 %) , shunt system obstruction in 15 patients ( 8.11% ) , ventricular end obstruction in 11 cases , the peritoneal obstruction three cases , shunt pump valve obstruction 1 cases ; shunt infection ( infection , INF) in 17 patients ( 9.19% ) ; excessive drainage in 4 cases ( 2.16% ) ; brain hemorrhage, 2 cases ( 1.08% ) ; epilepsy (Epilepsy, EPI) 6 cases ( 3.24% ) ; shunt tube exposed five cases ( 2.70% ) ; blindness (Blindness, BN) 2 cases ( 1.08% ) ; shunt tube ectopic two cases . Hospital complication rate was 9.72% , 1-year postoperative complication rate was 10.81% , 2 years postoperative complication rate was 14.59% . Conclusion: ventriculo - peritoneal shunt a higher incidence of postoperative complications related to the surgery itself and the type of hydrocephalus strict surgical indications , operative techniques , select the appropriate pressure shunt device postoperative active processing can effectively reduce the incidence of complications .
