Abstract


The family is the place to live for every society . Family life is not static , it is closely related to social change . The era of gilded with the progress of the transition period of the United States from an agricultural society to an urban society . This period of American family life has changed greatly . People belongs to the class, race and economic status , family life in the United States is showing a variety of features . In the era of gold-plated and progress , the new middle-class families began to transition to the the friend type family mode . Most of them engaged in white-collar work , the pursuit of exquisite luxury living , focusing on the emotional intimacy between family members . Low - wage working families in order to maintain the integrity of the family , most of them rely on the family -wage economies . The lack of economic income also have a negative impact on labor relations between family members . Labor family life showing different characteristics of different races , black families influenced by racial factors . Most black families still struggling below the poverty line , apartheid also makes changes in the relationship between the members of the black family . Thus, we focus on three different dimensions of the new middle class, the working class and black families to explore the gilded Progressive Era American family life . The thesis is divided into three parts: The first part discusses the relationship between the material life of the new middle-class families and family members ; second part of the analysis of the relationship between the material life of working families and family members ; third part elaborates black families the relationship between material life and family members .
