With the continuous deepening of reform and the expansion of enrollment in Colleges and universities, student management as a core work became very heavy, so the establishment of efficient college student management system becomes the trend of time. In practice, the student management system has been greatly improved the efficiency of college students’information management, and it will relieve student management staff of complicated work. This paper is to build a student information management system based on the workflow technology, to make the college students management more efficient, more scientific, and more systematic.This paper starts from information construction of colleges and universities, introduces the present situation of the informatization construction in University, analyzes the existing problems and puts forward the necessity and the significance of the establishment of college students’ comprehensive management system; after analyzing the feasibility of the construction, it introduces system design and the use of technology from the aspect of the demand analysis. Finally, it displays the main function of the system through the introduction of each system module.The university student information management system is a comprehensive, complex system, involving students in management of all aspects, including the freshman’s school management, graduates’ employment, school management, performance management, examination management, course management, integrated management and so on. Due to limited space, this paper only elaborates the technical implementation of the most representative data management module.The system adopts the most applicable use of B/S structure, allowing users to login and use this system at any time. By using the powerful NET technology and three layer architecture, and using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in database it makes the system obtain good capacity and safety. Workflow technology which is frequently applied in OA system is used in the system business processing, allowing students and managers to lighten the burden. System development application in Huangshan University student management, obtained better result, and rewarded users’positive feedbacks according to the survey; however, still we found some defects in its safety and operability, which provided valuable information for system upgrades.
