Abstract

Appling the effect of laser shock wave to propulsion was proposed by Arthur Kantrowitz in 1972. Since then, a lot of scholars have done researches on it, whereas most of the researches focused on the impulse coupling in laser propulsion, and few researchers studied in the structure dynamic response which was driven by laser shock wave, or in the laser parameters’influence on the laser shock wave drive performance. However, acquiring each parameter’s influence on drive performance is vital to the development of laser drive technology. So, it is necessary to do further study on the influence of each parameter. In this thesis, mechanical models of laser shock wave, separately in direct ablation mode and in confined geometry, are established according to the characteristic of laser shock wave inducing process and former research data. These models describe the pressure variation with the time. The finite element software is applied to simulate the dynamic response of the structure driven by laser shock wave induced by laser with different parameters in direct ablation mode, and various parameters’influence on dynamic response is discussed, and experiment is done using a laser driving a cantilever. The comparison between experiment and simulation results indicates that the model imported with a parameter agrees well with the experiment data. Finally, considering the fluid interaction with structure in confined geometry, the structure modal analysis and dynamic analysis are analyzed in finite element method. The advantages and disadvantages of direct ablation mode and confined geometry are discussed by comparing the simulation results.
