On Lao-tse’s Ecological Thought and College Students’Eco-Moral Education

Abstract


Taoism with strong naturalistic view is quite unique in our long traditional cluture, it is also one source of ecological ethics in the East. Lao-tse who was the founder of Taoism praised the wisdom of nature and advocated return to nature. His masterpiece,“Tao Te Ching”is full of penetrating insight and experience about the relationship between the human beings and nature, which is not only a wealth of spiritual resource for our ecological moral education, but also is an imporant part of ecological moral education. At present with the worse and worse environmental crisis, Lao-tse’s ecological wisdom still has an important value of the times, especially its practical significance for solving the crisis in the survival of mankind. The article focus on the importance position of Lao-tse’s ecological thought in moral education, meanwhile with fully interpreting the Lao-tse eclogical thought absorbs the essence and discards the dregs, tries to explore the enlightment significance of Lao-tse’s ecological ideas in the ecological moral education.The article beings with the introduction and the follwing body discusses from four aspects:The first part explores the ecological thought of Lao-tse, and interprets and analyzes the social and cultural background of Lao-tse’s ecological thought, with dialectical thinking trying to find its rational core.The second part is about the analysis of current situation of the college ecological moral education. On one hand summarize the detail of ecologocal moral education’s the achievement in college. On the other hand point out the problems which exist in the ecological moral education’goals, contents and methods. And this part also gives a detail description to the root causes of the ecological moral education’s problems.The third part is the core of this article. Based on the second part, it found that Lao-tse’s ecological thought contribute great to the ecological moral education, such as“Highest good is like water benefits all things without struggle”,“Benefits to others without harm”contains the request of saint quality;“Return to the Nature”, obtains the nobleness spiritual pursuit;“all things of the universe worship Tao and exalt Teh”manifests the ecological value orientation; all of these bring meaningful enlightenment to ecological moral education’golas. Then Lao-tse’s idea,“manifest plainness, embrace simplicity, reduce selfishness, and hold few desires”, according to the idea of sustainable development is an important content of current ecological moral education. Also Lao-tse’s methods of moral education will helpful to improve the ecological and moral education methods, such as“the teachings of no-language”.Based on the third part, the fourth part discusses the reality thinking of ecological moral education, and emphasis on the goals of education proposes“ecological character”changes in culture and ecological values; On the contents of education should not only inherit the traditional ecological thought, but also to explore the modern value of traditional ecological thought and emphasize the edccation of new ecological thought. On the methods of ecological moral education to focus on innovativing traditional education methods, rationally use of modern educational technology, to enhance the effectiveness of ecological and moral education.
