Abstract

Clay as a natural impervious material has been widely used in hydraulic engineering and environmental health engineering . As we all know, the saturated clay with low intensity , uneven settlement of poor adaptability , dehydration can produce poor engineering properties of dry cracks . For improved the adverse engineering properties , to ensure that the conditions of low permeability , polypropylene fibers as reinforcement improved mechanical properties red clay . Comprehensive and systematic study on clay mechanical properties of conventional soil test , changes in fiber content , fiber length parameters , mainly to carry out the following work : ( 1 ) fiber clay sample preparation technology . First mixer prepared slurry (water content close to the liquid limit ) was added with stirring the appropriate amount of fiber , until the added amount is reached , after sufficient stirring , the fibers may be uniformly dispersed in the slurry. The prepared sample was transferred to a vacuum oedometer consolidation . ( 2) study the fiber red clay compaction characteristics . Compaction test results show that the red clay of different fiber content , fiber for maximum dry density less impact , while a greater impact on the optimum moisture content . (3) the fiber red clay permeability . Penetration test results show that the variable head permeability test on the red clay of different fiber content , add fiber , the permeability coefficient increased slightly , but still in the same order of magnitude as the permeability coefficient of red clay , still has a low permeability characteristics . (4 ) to study the mechanical properties of the fibers red clay under the different test methods . For different fiber content , fiber length , respectively, using the direct shear test , unconfined compressive strength test , triaxial test carried out systematically test study , and focuses on the failure mode of the the CU condition under the sample . The results showed that the the fiber red clay strength was significantly higher than the intensity of the red clay , and increased with the increase in fiber content and length ; red clay after the addition of fiber , c values ??improved significantly , φ change , the fiber red clay stress - strain relations the curve has a typical hardening characteristics; lower fiber content , the fiber red clay sample bulging failure mode , the fiber content is higher , the larger axial strain , nor rupture .
