Abstract

First-person pronouns in academic writing process of development has gone through different periods of paragraphs in academic writing was just starting up, academic writers use a greater amount of first-person pronouns, and later as the development of science, academic research objectivity and more is important, so the first-person pronouns in academic writing to use less, then later, more and more papers, some scholars believe that in order to sell their own academic writing requires a certain amount of first-person pronouns to sell their papers . Since China started late academic writing, and different scholars in academic writing whether the need to use the first person pronoun opinions, this may affect the Chinese writing master's thesis on the use of first-person pronouns. Therefore, this self-built two sub-corpus, a corpus is the master's thesis, and the other is a foreign Papers corpus. By comparing these two sub-corpora to identify domestic and foreign scholars in the Masters first-person pronouns used on the similarities and differences. Throughout foreign scholars (eg Hyland, 2002; Molino, 2010; Luzn 2009) on the first-person pronoun function classification, we can find them on the first-person pronoun functional classification there are different both in common areas. I use first-person pronouns function classification from Luzn (2009), he put the first-person pronoun is divided into: the purpose statement that view, stating the research process that results or findings, the statement concluded that the final recommendations, which means that the sharing of knowledge, goals or beliefs that emphasize or attention to the reader, to guide readers to the nine categories. According to these nine categories, we can see from the data master the more domestic first-person pronouns used in the \thus to differentiate themselves, emphasizing the importance of their own. Academic Writing in the number of first-person pronouns, in addition to the first-person pronouns us and our domestic and foreign Papers Thesis no significant difference, the remaining I, we, me and my have a significant difference. Also, the first domestic Masters singular personal pronoun frequency was significantly lower than the frequency of foreign journal articles, and first-person plural pronouns we are far higher than the frequency of foreign journal articles. This paper studies done a few possible explanations. Thesis in the domestic first-person singular pronouns to use less and we use the first-person plural pronouns more, this may be because the Asian collectivist culture, might have been the purpose of writing, it may be subject to their own academic writers not sure of the identity, but also may be due to different scholars or by academic writing instructors use the first person pronoun different views of the impact. In the first function of the use of personal pronouns, domestic master avoid differentiate themselves, and foreign scholars tend to emphasize their own, which in addition may be influenced by culture, but also might have been a writer as well as the impact of different writing purposes.
