Disk fragmentation is a computer system has been an important issue. The emergence of virtualization technology makes disk fragmentation problem becomes more serious and complicated. Existing defragmentation methods can not make full use of virtual environments to virtual environments quickly and efficiently solve the fragmentation issues. And, in a virtual environment, not only from the physical disk fragmentation, but also from the virtual disk. For Windows systems, virtual machines, virtual disk fragmentation experiments show that its I / O performance resulting in a significant impact. Further on virtualized I / O process analysis and performance profiling tool tests showed that the virtual disk fragmentation can cause the virtual machine and the virtual machine monitor overhead between even the entire virtualized I / O processes have increased the number of overhead , which can seriously affect I / O performance. Therefore, in a virtualized environment, the virtual elimination of disk fragmentation has become a key. In fact, the elimination of the virtual disk fragmentation can be a virtual finishing method, which simply modify the virtual file system metadata, without moving any data blocks, you can make the file mapping (virtual machine files from a block of data to the virtual file system data blocks mapping) becomes continuous. To ensure the accuracy of finishing, because they do not move any data block, the actual mapping (from the virtual file system data blocks to physical file system data blocks mapping) should ultimately remain unchanged. So, mirrored (virtual file system from the store image file data blocks to the physical file system data block mapping) will have to file under the new map to be updated accordingly, so that the actual mapping remains unchanged. This is the zero-copy finishing method: do not copy any data block, eliminate virtual disk fragmentation, reducing virtual machines and virtual machine management, and communication overhead between the entire virtualized I / O overhead of a series of processes, thus improve virtual machine I / O performance. System for zero-copy defragmentation Xen Virtual Machine Manager and Windows virtual machine to achieve a virtual disk access to information as well as finishing. Micro and macro I / O benchmark assessments show that after zero-copy defragmentation systematically organized, the virtual machine I / O performance has been significantly improved, up to 20%, and almost no performance is quite fragmented state. More importantly, the finishing process is very fast, finishing 1GB virtual machine partitions only takes 5 seconds, and the traditional finishing the software you need a few hundred seconds.
