As a positive trait and psychological mechanism, hope was associated with individual psychological development and health. For the persons who undergo reeducation through labor institutions (PURTL), hope had a more positive meaning. Based on Snyder’s hope theory, this study probed into the structure of hope of PURTL through developing a hope questionnaire. And then, We used group Counseling to interven the hope level in order to promote the hope level of PURTL.Based on literature review, structured interview and open questionnaire, the research designed an hope questionnaire for PURTL by reference to Snyder’s hope theory. Moreover, this study examined the reliability and validity of preliminary questionnaire, and then established the formal questionnaire. Secondly, this study confirmed the theory structure of hope questionnaire by using the formal questionnaire,, and analyzed the feature of hope of PURTL. Third, we selected 24 PURTL randomly as the interventional subject, and adopted the paradigm that analyzed the treated group and untreated group before and after intervention. The treated group accepted group guidance twice a week for 8 times, while untreated group had no intervention. After the intervention for one month, this study processed a follow-up visit to the subjects. Finally, interventional effect was assessed by the hope questionnaire and the follow-up visit in PURTL.Judging from the reams of evidence presented, we can safely conclude that:First, the hope trait of PURTL had its own unique structure which was composed by social hope, family hope, interpersonal hope, work hope, education reform hope and recreation hope. Every side of hope all contained agency thoughts and pathway thoughts.Second, the hope traits of PURTL were as follows:to sum up, family hope and education reform hope were highest, and the level of agency thoughts was higher than pathway thoughts; From the aspect of age factor, the younger, recreation hope level was higher. Moreover, when people grew older, the education reform hope level gradually increased; In the cultural level, the higher level of education, the level of work hope was higher; In detention period on education reform ways, and the level of pathway thoughts which was changed be education presented u-shape curve with the time increasing; In the only-child factor, the only-child children in social agency thoughts hope level was higher than the one-child, while in entertainment way was below the level of thinking only children; In marriage factor, the level of family agency thoughts for PURTL who married was significantly higher than divorce, unmarried and other marriage condition, whereas the entertainment hope level of unmarried PURTL significantly higher than married and divorced groups; at work, PURTL who had jobs were significant different from job-less PURTL in all hope levels except for recreation hope; according to the factor of account location, there were no difference between urban and rural PURTL of hope level.Third, the groups counseling of theme hope could significantly promote the levels of social hope, interpersonal hope, work hope, education reform hope and Self-efficacy.
