Abstract

The comprehensive quality and professional ability of coaches are key factors which can restrain and affect the development of competitive sports. Improving the competence of coaches has already become one of the factors among the competition between nations. It is the major method of cultivating proficient coaches that realizes the scientific of sports.China has dominant the sport of table tennis for a long time, in order to maintain her leading position, it is essential to make researches on the current situation of Chinese table tennis coaches, the development of position training and the relationship between the two, which helps to make progress in raising coaches’overall level, boosting the sustainable practice of position training for those coaches and finally, providing pertinent suggestions and advices to a better position training.The author of this paper has acquired information from Chinese advanced coaches, experts from sport colleges, managers of position training through questionnaires and interviews, by means of documentary and the method of mathematical statistics to reach the research goal on the base of analyzing the current situation of Chinese table tennis coaches and the status of position training. The conclusions are as follows:1. The current Chinese table tennis coaches are mainly come from retired players who tend to be younger than the previous eligible coaching age, and have relatively short span of coaching careers. Their general education backgrounds are poor:few of them have received formal advanced education. With weak theoretical knowledge, their coaching practices and knowledge about training theories are not well corresponded with each other.2. Besides educational backgrounds, the major qualification for title assessment of certain coaches is the sporting performance achieved by players under their guidance. In provinces of lower sporting performance, it is difficult for those who coach in such area to make progress in the title assessment.3. The number of Chinese table tennis coaches who have attended the primary and middle rank programs of position training is relatively small. Most of the coaches haven’t attended the training programs due to their tight coaching tasks4. position training programs for table tennis coaches are becoming more regulated and systematic, but some problems still exist during the training process and further improvement need to be made.5. The training system of Chinese table tennis coaches is affirmed in accordance to the strategic target of successful coach training, that is, to keep the predominant role of Chinese table tennis in the world and make training a sustainable development. The organizing and practicing of training include:training content, faculty selection and employing, training practice and forms. The training requirement is to enhance the comprehensive ability of coaches according to their different conditions and real need. The evaluation consists of four parts.
