Abstract

Qin Ding Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao which was built in the period from the twelfth year to forty-ninth year of the Qing Emperor Qianlong traverses across five dynasties including Song, Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming. It constitutes twenty-six main chapters, and five hundreds and fifty sub-chapters. Qin Ding Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao traces the evolutions of political and economic system between around four hundred years from the end of the Song Ningzong Jiading to the end of the Ming Si Chongzhen, which is one of the significant Code System History Books.One chapter in the book named Jing Ji Kao employs a traditional taxonomy primarily including Jing, Shi, Zi, Ji. In details, it has fifty-six kind of divisions including Yi, Shu, Poem, Li, Chun qiu, Analects, Mencius, Xiao jing, Jing zhu, Si shu, Yue, Yi zhu, Chen wei, Xiao xue, Zheng shi, Bian nian, Zhao ling zou yi, Za shi, Zhuan ji, Shi ping shi chao, Gu shi, Zhi guan, Xing fa, Di li, Shi ling, Pu die, Mu lu, Ru jia, Dao jia, Fa jia, Za jia, Xiao shuo jia, Nong jia, Pu lu, Tian wen, Tui suan, Wu xing, Zhan shi, Xing fa, Bing jia, Yi jia, Shen xian jia, Shi jia, Lei shu, Za yi shu, Chu ci, Bie ji, Shi ji, Zong ji, Shi wen ping, Ci qu. Furthermore, each division has fourty-three parts. There are 77,076 clusters orgnized in 6,155 units regarding numerous different theories from Song Dynasty to Ming Dynasty in this book. The book collects many outcomes from Si Ku Quan Shu, and provides many valuable principles about bibliography and literature preservation. Unfortunately, there is no existing particular and systematical research on this book. This is the reason to why I choose this area as my graduate thesis topic.The goal of research on Qin Ding Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao is to build a comprehensive collection and comment through determining how this book was created, how versions were passes, and organizing varying existing outcomes about bibliography, and abstract. There are four parts in the whole thesis.Details about author, implementation and editions will be introduced in the first part. Cultural policy and characteristics of the Qing Dynasty Historical Bureau System will also be discussed. Qin Ding Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao was built by ’San Tong Guan’group of Qing Dynasty lasting around forty years. Leaders and principals of the group changed timely during the whole period. This book was implemented as complementation of the Wen Xian Tong Kao composed by Ma Duanlin. In addition, the book was developed as a powerful weapon to protect the reign for the sovereign. There are many different editions for this book consisting of offprint, ’Xu San Tong’,’Jiu Tong’ and collections of chapters.Bibliography values of Qin Ding Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao Jing Ji Kao will be presented in the second part. Characteristics and the academic development the book showed will be researched through analyzing the bibliography, and comparing the bibliography with them of Wen Xian Tong Kao Jing Ji Kao and Si Ku Quan Shu Zong Mu.Qin Ding Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao Jing Ji Kao kept the original format of the book, and derived spirit from Ma Duanlin. On the other hand, it modified, renamed and reordered the bibliography through using the outcomes of Si Ku Quan Shu Zong Mu and the idea that’the more classification, the clearer it is’from Tong Zhi written by Zheng Qiao.Comparison betweenQin Ding Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao Jing Ji Kao and Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao Jing Ji Kao composed by Wang Qi will be listed. Through comprehensive comparisons, pros and cons of each will be analyzed. In addition, composing priciples of Wang Qi will be introduced, and lots of proofreading work for Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao Jing Ji Kao will be listed.Literature values of Qin Ding Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao Jing Ji Kao will be described in part four including derivation, values of abstract, proofreading work of bibliography. The bibliography obeys the old style by Ma Duan which not only lists the total number of clusters in the front of the each class, but also collects huge number of different theories.However,Qin Ding Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao Jing Ji Kao still has many drawbacks, for instance, inappropriate methods used by bibliography classification, and bias towards many academic concepts. Most of the abstracts of this books were from Si Ku Quan Shu Zong Mu, this degrades its academic values. Even though this book has many shortcomings. it still indeed preserve the original face of books in Song, Liao, Jin, Yuan, and Ming Dynasty. It records the development and the evolutions of the academic and cultural aspects. And it combines the advantages of Wen Xian Tong Kao with them of Si Ku Quan Shu Zong Mu. In addition, it is one of the most important literature for researchers which preserves extraordinarily and abundantly valuable literature materials.
