Abstract


This paper aimed to elaborate the change of swine-raising and its risked return through a study on different phrases of Shiyao village (in Chongqing province) settlers’ daily productive activity. A fieldwork study was conducted with native residents in Shiyao and case study was used as its methodology. Findings suggested that as swine-raising activity widened its range from inner village to the outside, it became more and more dependable on the market. It also indicated a dilemma between the profits that swine-raising brought to Shiyao as well as the risks that small-scale farming might face on entering the market. The socialization of swine-raising required better public service, therefore, the author believed that the government should build a proper public service network in order to protect individual peasants from losing benefits and ensure their stable development in the risky market.
