Allotment Garden originated in Europe in the 19th century, since the rapid industrialization and urbanization in the 19th century, the allotment garden has become very popular in many European and North American countries. So far, the function of the allotment garden has gradually shifted from food production to the recreation.In recent years, allotment gardens are based on the natural and pleasant rural life, and they have been favored by many residents, because they can improve the economy and the quality of life. However, the excessive development has led to some problems. The article studies the planning and design of allotment garden in the development of modern city, making it the connection of city life and rural life, protecting ecological environment, and realizing the peoples’s longing for rural life.The article looks at the relevant theoretical research, studies the history, the planning and design, and the management of the allotment garden. It studies the actual situation in our country, bases on the theory of landscape ecology, urban ecological planning, sustainable development, also combines with the relevant examples of foreign allotment gardens, and its business model, at the end, it summarizes the specific planning and design of allotment garden. And with an actual project which the author personally involved, theory with practice, it brings allotment garden more practical significance.
