Abstract

Objctive:To investigate the expression of receptor for advanced glyeation end products (RAGE) in primary hepatocellular carcinoma (PHC).METHODS:Liver tissues from ten PHC patients and serum from both PHC patients and healthy volunteers were collected; ELISA and chemiluminescence were used to detect the expressions of RAGE and AFP in serum, respectively; Applied reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western Blot to analyze the expression of RAGE mRNA and protein in tissues of ten PHC and noncancer cases, respectively.RESULTS:①RAGE expression occured in serum and liver tissues in both healthy volunteers and PHC patients;②RAGE in PHC serum (313.34±214.36) ng/L was higher than that in normal group (59.14±23.71) ng/L;③Both of the levels of RAGE mRNA and protein were significantly upregulated in tissues of ten PHC cases, respectively(P< 0.05);CONCLUSION:①The expression of RAGE was significantly upregulated in PHC;②High level of RAGE in PHC suggested that it may play an important role in its carcinogenesis and development;③RAGE is a potentially new therapeutic target of PHC and it maybe a more sensitive serum marker for diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma.
