Abstract


To study the relationship between Self-Worth, Coping Style and parenting style of Higher Vocational College Students,580 students were investigated by the Young People Self-esteem Scale (which is designed by Prof.Huang Xiting), questionnaires on coping styles and EMBU. The study demonstrated:Firstly, there is gender difference in self-worth among higher vocational college students:there is gender difference in global self-worth, general self-worth,individual-oriented psychological self-worth, individual-oriented moral self-worth,society-oriented interpersonal self-worth;female students’ scores are higher than male students.Secondly,there is gender difference in seeking support,female students’ scores are higher than male students.The only child higher vocational college students’scores in seeking support are higher than non-only child higher vocational college students.The vocational college students come from village got higher scores in rebuking oneself, avoidance factor than students come from city.Tirdly, female students can get more parental warmth and understanding;but male students get more parental strictness,father rejection and denying.Only child’s parents give more warmth and understanding, involvement and protection, meanwhile only child students get less penalty strictness, rejection and denying. The vocational college students come from city get more parental warmth and understanding,father involvement and protection; students come from village get more mother rejection and denying,mother penalty strictness.Fourth, parenting style of higher vocational college students prove to be an most influential factor to self-worth.Positive parenting style have an positive effect to self-worth, but negative parenting style have an negative effect to self-worth.Fifth,there are close relationship between parenting style of higher vocational college students and coping style. Positive parenting style have an positive effect to coping style, but negative parenting style have an negative effect to coping style.Sixth, there is a significant positive co-relation between the higher vocational college students’ global self-worth, social orientation self-worth, individual orientation self-worth and problems-solving, seeking help, rationalization;but negatively relation with rebuking oneself, avoidance This indicated that when something happen the higher vocational college students with higher self-worth can adopt positively deals with the way, however the higher vocational college students with lower self-worth adopt negatively deals with the way.Based on the above conclusions,this study also raises some educational suggestions,hop-ing to offer some guidance and help on family education,meanwhile to improve the relationshop between parents and their children as well as to promote ruralsenior high students’ mental health.
