Abstract


In ancient and modern Chinese, nouns can be used as verbs or adjectives. The subject of this thesis is a denominal verb and the author is meant to discuss how to translate the denominal nouns into English. According to the semantic differences between denominal verbs and their original nouns, we can divide denominal verbs into three kinds and discusses how to translate each into English. Finally, the author arrives at a summary about the English translation of denominal verbs—we can use three methods to deal with the translation, including literal translation, free translation and explanation. Besides, we should pay attention to dealing with the highlighted concepts and the hidden concepts of denominal verbs.
