Abstract


This article is on the basis of Wang Anshi’s Zishuo, which compiled by Zhang Zongyan and corrected by Cao Jinyan. From the perspective of semantics, we use ways like quantitative analysis and comparison to make a complete research and scientific judge on the success and failure of Zishuo, and all these efforts aim to grant its value and position that it deserved. The two points are as follows:1. the analysis of the relationship between the shape and meaning of the Chinese Characters by Zishuo;2. the analysis of the relationship between the pronunciation and meaning of the Chinese Characters by ZishuoBy analysis, we conclude that it is not accidental that people have been saying Zishuo badly. The biggest failure of it is that it uses the way of associative compounds, one of the six categories of the Chinese Characters to explain most majority of Chinese Characters, especially Xingshengzi which plays a leading role in the Chinese Character system. It also falls into the trap of subject and deviates the track of explanations of words in ancient books.But we can still find some of its values:1. Zishuo inherited the essence of Xu Shen, the inheritance that he adopted mostly were correct. 2.the way Zishuo took to explain the meaning of the characters according to their shapes showed its original idea;3. Zishuo also inherited and initiated the Shengxun and Youwen;4. Zishuo introduced some kinds of knowledge about the biology.
