Abstract


Based on a investigation, this article is a sociolinguistic combining with traditional dialectology study of the specific usages of the kinship-words of Jinshi(in Xiangxiang City, Hunan Province )dialect The methods adopted in this article includs document accessing, sample and questionnaire survey, comparative analysis. The goals of this study are mainly to comprehensively describe the current situation, to summarize the characteristics of Jinshi kinship words and the deep cultural connotations behind this linguistic phenomenon.This article is divided into six chapters.The first chapter consists of an general introduction, including the history, geography and dialect of Xiangxiang City and its town Jinshi. the research which people have done on Xiangxiang dialects and the significance of this study; the main methods used in the study and details about the investigation implementation have also been made clear. At the end of this part is the phonology and the profile of kinship terms in Jinshi dialect.The second,third,fourth and fifth chapters are separately overviews of kinship words spoken by great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, the same generations and younger generations. It is the main part of the article. The sixth chapter is the characteristics and variations of Kinship words and the causes in Jinshi dialect of Xiangxiang. People, with different ages, cultural backgrounds and genders, make the dialect speaking show different features.later,I also tried my best to dig out the reasons that resulted in these difference.Though there are also some insufficient place in my article,I still consider having used the theory of sociolinguistics in this article as an creativeness. The value of this study is that the author tries to use the theories of sociolinguistics and a lot of research methods to study the kinship words in a special dialect. And discuss the causes of the variations from different aspects. From the investigation and analysis We came to a conclusion that Mandarin has a great impact on the Kinship Words in Jinshi dialect.
