Abstract


The phenomenon of meme in the language use plays an important role in the variation and development of the social language, which has also been the significant part of the social language research. The transmission of meme in the same cultural context is always transmitted through the imitation, especially the linguistic imitation. If the linguistic meme transmits from one cultural context to another different cultural context, the whole transmission processes is much more complex. The translation concerning memes should be added into the process. So the translation acts as the subsistence carrier of the cross-cultural transmission of the linguistic meme. This paper aims to explore how the cultural resonance affects the replication and transmission of the linguistic memes in the cross-cultural context.The present study, based on the Dawkins’theories of memetic, the Chesterman’s theories of translated memes, and the acceptance rhetoric, is supposed to do the research on some popular linguistic memes phenomena in the cross-language environments, analyzing the replication and transmission process of the linguistic memes models in the cross-language contexts, and exploring the cultural resonance from the strong translated memes and weak translated memes through the qualitative research based on the social corpora collected from newspaper, periodicals, internet and regular words.The research indicates that the communication and development among all the languages should depend on the continuous replication and transmission of the translated linguistic memes. And the internal reason for the prevalence or extinction of the translated linguistic memes is the cultural resonance or divergence between the languages. The translated linguistic memes should make use of the commonness of the cultures to achieve the cultural resonance with the new hosts and maxim decrease of the frustration caused by the uniqueness of languages. In this way we should ensure the translated linguistic memes to generate vital variants with the change of linguistic environments and turn to be new strong translated linguistic memes.The phenomena of linguistic memes in the haploid cultural context are very interesting. Moreover, the translated memes in cross-cultural context deal with the field of pragmatics, acceptation of rhetorical information and cross-culture communication. So the systematical research on the cultural resonance concerning the translated meme is valuable for not only the theory but also the piratical application. So in the practical cultural communication and translation process, the translator should pay attention to the positive effect of cultural resonance so as to promote the better understanding and communication between the joint cultures.
