In the development process of Modern Chinese Literature, New literature and Popular literature co-exist, against each other, and interact each other, the situation constitute a complete Modern Chinese Literature. This paper researches Modern Chinese Novels from 1921 to 1936 on the basis of reading works and grasping the information.For the purpose of occupy a strong position in mainstream literature, new Literature launched attacks on the popular literature, from publications fight to vocal opposition, with the strategic objectives of these attacks, have a great help for the rapid development of new literature. The first chapter is combing the war between new literature and popular literature in the early twenties. Challenge from the new Literature put forward higher and more scientific requirements of popular literature, promoting the maturity of popular literature. During this period, there are many good works of popular fiction, obtaining achievement in the inadequate field of new literature. To speaking with the works, is the response to the challenges of new literature.The second chapter is exploring the achievements of popular fiction from two aspects of love and society. Contrast with the new literature, popular fiction except in writing love, the description of Love in this period full of distinctive characteristics of the times and modern implication. Comprehensive display of the Society is a distinctive feature of popular fiction. There are many popular works of martial arts novels and detective fiction; this is the exclusive preserve of the popular novels.Popular fiction has made great contributions to the Enlightenment, but ignored by the new literature. The third chapter is investigating the contribution of the Enlightenment of ordinary people from three aspects, promoting modern language, developing vision, and publicizing patriotism. This shows that only multiple co-existences can meet the different needs.
