Abstract

The cerebral cortex neurons trigger that will produce measurable electrical activity. Electroencephalogram (Electroencephalo-grams, EEG) to measure and record the electrical activity signals by the near cortex sensing electrode array. EEG as a non-invasive means of detection, which are widely used in the research field of neuroscience and cognitive psychology. With the rapid development of electronic and computer technology to promote the development of the brain - machine interfaces (Brain Computer Interface-BCI) technology as a new information exchange technology, establish direct communication channel between the brain and external devices. The brain-computer interface provides a viable means to control external devices with the idea. This technique also previously exist only in science fiction. In recent years, because of its academic value and broad application prospects based on electroencephalogram (EEG) brain-computer interface (BCI) technology has become a hot topic of research at home and abroad. Applications involving control of prosthetic devices, auxiliary AC, military applications, video games, and robot control Not only is it a new assistive ways and means of control, to help improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities, but also for the normal person, provides a special kind of exchange of information and live entertainment. This thesis a TV remote control system based BCI, according to the ideas of the user to control the TV's many functions, including power on / off, channel switch and volume control. The system consists of EEG headset, host PC, the control circuit and a universal remote controller. Using the the Emotiv system's wireless EEG headset EPOC, 14 EEG sensors to obtain the user's bio-electric signals. The user must first learn about the EEG headset application software, the user mindset training through the imagination of the direction of movement of the slider on the computer screen. Use, EPOC headset will monitor the user's brain electrical activity in raw EEG data collected and transmitted to the host PC. Running on the host software will analyze the original data, interpret the user's thought patterns and associated with the instruction set, such as switching channels, and increase the volume, and the command is transmitted in the form of a serial data packet to the control circuit . Finally, through an electronic switch to output a corresponding control signal to the completion of the universal remote controller of the TV remote control function. Users to the successful completion of the most remote operation, and has a high success rate and stability, in order to verify the feasibility of this design BCI remote system can be seen from the test results.
