Abstract


To achieve a full and effective prosess in using mobile communication technology and tools in mobile learning, we need new design specially composed for features of both mobile learning itself and mobile learning tools, including learning activities design, learning resource design, micro-learning management system design, interaction and feedback mode design, and micro-learning design and so on. Some areas and institutions at home and abroad have received astonishing exploration results in all aspects of the above.Benefit from the mobile terminal, wireless Internet, mobile applications and other hardware and software conditions updating constantly, mobile learning objects (MLOs) have become increasingly rich and diverse. Because of the special factors such as complexity and variety in the users, mobile terminals, learning context, the R&D and promoting process of MLOs take standards as foundamental element in identifying and interoperability sharing different learning resources from different sources. In the development of e-learning, the importance of standards is well reflected and rich experience is accumulated. Basing on these results, and new requirements raised by mobile context, this study will focus on the metadata description of mobile learning resources, and will explore how to more accurately describe the mobile learning objects while also keep the description universal.By analyzing the existing research results of metadata standards, such as the China E-Learning Technology Standards (CELTS) issued by China E-Learning Technology Standardization Committee (CELTSC), this study attempts to research and design mobile learning object metadata (MLOM), by this endeavor customizes the MLOM specification and standardizes the content and form of MLOs.On the other hand, based on the idea of reusing existing resources, this study introduces a new concept, "microformats", and discusses its advantages in information segmentation and extraction. Through those advatages, the author sets forth the pushing possibility of learning objects between e-learning and mobile learning environments. Using the microformats and its designing methods, this study standardizes the presentation of mobile learning resources.From the two aspects above, the study seeks to make MLO more shareable at the normative level. After assuming MLOM works as "before-data", microformats as "post-data", the author pictures a vision of applying the combination of MLOM and microformats in mobile learning.
