Abstract


As a new emerging program mode, talk show has experienced rapid growth in China in recent years with features such as wide varieties, wide range of topics and increasing number of shows. However, its overall trend is not too optimistic due to superficial topic choices, shortage of competent hosts, guests "role play"-acting based on pre-defined scripts and lack of audience involvement, which lead to an embarrassing situation.The emergence of "Yi Hu Talk Show" brings hope to the present predicament of talk show. It overall style is established based on its preferred topic choice-controversial topics. During guests selection period, it skillfully provides guests with enough room to fully express their opinions, allows diverse ideas to collide, leading to the ultimate integration through fierce debate. The ability of host keeping good and subtle balance results in the uniqueness of the show. In a nutshell, the above factors contribute to the success of the show.The essay is based on the research of "Yi Hu Talk Show" with case study, text analysis, follow-up investigation and other research methods adopted to analyze the four key elements of talk show-topic choice, guests, host and audience, compare and analyze the existing problems in other talk shows in order to explore a road for the long-term development and innovation of talk show.
