With the fast development of video applications such as IPTV and P2P, the requirement for higher capability transmission network becomes urgent. The 100Gbps transmission is the core technology of the next generation in the high-speed transmission area. The physical transmission-restrain that the 100Gbps transmission faces is more severe. Neither the tolerance of chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, nonlinear effects, nor the tolerance of the back-to-back OSNR is more difficult to achieve. Compared with varieties of code form that the 40Gbps transmission system uses, the 100Gbps transmission system concerns more about the techniques of polarization multiplexing, coherent detection, multiphase modulation, OFDM, electric domained equalization and so on, to overcome the physical transmission constraints. The optical transmission system with the transmission speed of 100Gbps and above, which the paper studies, uses the techniques of coherent detection, polarization multiplexing and electric domained equalization. Specifically, the signal encoding method uses differential encode, the signal modulation format uses QPSK, 8PSK or 16PSK, the signal transmission speed is improved by the way of polarization multiplexing technique, and distortion generated in the process of transmission is compensated using the equalization technology based on the adaptive algorithm in the receiver. The adaptive algorithms in this paper contain the CMA algorithm of blind equalization algorithm, and the LMS algorithm of non-blind equalization algorithm. The equalization performance of the two algorithms in the coherent polarization-multiplexing optical fiber communication system, which the paper mainly concerns about, is simulated and analyzed. With the study of the performance of the single system and the multiplexing system successively, the settings of equalizer’s parameters and important conclusion obtained from the study of the performance of the single system are referred as the study of the performance of the multiplexing system. In the study of the single system, it first educes appropriate equalizer’s parameters including the number of equalizer taps, sampling rate and sampling time needed in the simulation from the studies of the influence of equalizer’s parameters on the equalization performance of system. And then it analyzes the influence of different formats of signal and the influence of phase noise on the equalization performance of the system. In the study of the polarization multiplexing system, it first analyzes the influence of polarization mode dispersion on the equalization performance of the system, and then compares the equalization performance of the single system with the equalization performance of polarization multiplexing system in which the three kinds of modulation format are used.It is comprehensively drawn that the equalizer based on the CMA algorithm is suited for the application environment with shorter distance such as metropoliatan area network and local area network, and that the equalizer based on the LMS algorithm can adapt to the requirements of longer optical fiber transmission distance, and can tolerate higher line width of the laser although at the expense of the use efficiency of channel.
