Abstract

Power system transfer capability is very important for the security and reliability of power system. It can not only direct the system operator to guarantee the stability and security of system, but also be seen as a market signal to instruct trade actions of the market participants in the electricity market. To compute the transfer capability exactly and rapidly is a significant research field.Optimization method is one of most effective ways to get transfer capability. It must involve many security constraints such as generator output limits and voltage stability. Discrete devices, e.g. switch shunts and ULTCs, must also be taken into consideration in optimal process. Furthermore, sparse matrix technology is indispensable in optimal process due to the high-sparseness of iteration matrix.According to the problems above, several research works in this thesis are as follows:1. Basic concepts and general methods for transfer capability computing are presented firstly. Predictor-corrector primal-dual interior point method is introduced as well.2. Considering high-sparseness of iteration matrix, a sparse matrix technology named“orthogonal linked list”is proposed. All functions of orthogonal linked list are developed with standard C++.3. A transfer capability computing method is proposed with nonlinear predictor-corrector primal-dual interior point method. System security constraints and discrete devices are taken into account in the proposed method. The method is developed with standard C++.4. Proposed method is verified with IEEE 14 system and IEEE 118 system. Based on the case studies, it can be found that the method is robust and valid.
