Abstract

Structural vibration control is based on the assumption:adjusting the structure’s dynamical characteristic by supplemental control elements on structure or applying external force generated form external power to cope with applied load, all that can alleviate the damage of structure and enhance the capacity to combat shock. Elastoplasticity steel is a kind of anti-vibration mounting for structure, and the device named E-steel damper with the capacity of bearing, damping and energy dissipating, which is a combination of elastoplasticity steel and pot bearing, could force elastoplasticity steel to deform and absorbe most of energy when earthquake comes.First, local finite element analysis is carried out to assessment influencing fator of yield strength and measurement parameter. The biggest Mises stress and maximum equivalent strain of E-steel damper are linear increase when the yield strength enhanced, and could make the area of hysteresis loop increasing. For elastoplasticity steel damper size parameters, stress concentration phenomenon could be avoided with the increase of hl/b. The energy dissipation performance of E-steel damper was improved by increasing the cross-sectional widths and thickness of the steel plate or reducing length of the arm of force.Second, the dynamic responses of continuous girder bridges designed by conventional anti-seismic method were very large, to improve the performance of the bridge, E-steel damper is employed, while nonlinear dynamic time history analysis is carried out to assessment the seismic mitigation performance of this kind of damper. Results showed that elastoplasticity steel damper could significantly reduce the dynamic responses of the bridge and improve the bridge’s safety under earthquake, and be capable of absorbing most of seismic energy. Furthermore, the displacement of elastoplasticity steel damper would decrease and the dynamic responses of continuous girder bridges strengthened when the yield force value increased, so the yield force value of E-steel damper should be optimized and meet the related restrictions. At last, E-steel damper is applied to different piers of continuous girder bridges. Results show that E-steel damper could be absorbing more seismic energy for high pier of continuous girder bridge.
