Abstract

MIMO radar is one of the most debated topics in the current radar areas. MIMO radar can be separated into two categories, which are MIMO radar with co-located antennas and MIMO radar with widely separated antennas. MIMO radar with co-located antennas can employ waveform diversity to improve anti-interception performance and enhance the capability of detection of low speed target and weak target under strong clutter. MIMO radar with widely separated antennas can improve target detection probability by exploring the spatial diversity obtained through widely spaced antennas. This dissertation investigates the wideband waveform design for MIMO radar with widely separated antennas. For MIMO radar with widely separated antennas, it is desired to design orthogonal waveforms for ease of separation at the receiver and for anti-interference among the transmitted signals; second, it is suitable to apply wideband waveform to achieve a better performance in the target parameter estimation. To this end, after briefly outlining the model of the signal, simulated annealing algorithm is employed to numerically optimize poly-phase code for MIMO radar with widely separated antennas. The information-theoretic criterion has been applied in the design procedure. The optimized signals gain the orthogonal property while help to maximize the mutual information between the received signals and the target impulse response therefore minimize the mean square error of the target impulse response. The computer simulation results illustrate that the method is feasible for the design of poly-phase code employed in the MIMO radar with widely separated antennas.
