Abstract


China-ASEAN Free Trade Area Agreement is the first Free Trade Area Agreement that China has signed, the cooperation within China-ASEAN （Association of Southeast Asian Nations） Free Trade Area （CAFTA） has both practical significance and great demonstration effect for both China and ASEAN’s future regional economic participation and cooperation. As one of the key cooperation fields, fast and healthy development of the trade in services will serve a positive effect in region economic growth. In light of this, trade in services promotion has been brought into agenda. Chinese primier Wun Jiabao signed agreement on trade in services between China and ASEAN when he attended 10th ASEAN - China summit at Cebu, Philippines in Jan 14th, 2007.This is the first agreement on trade in services between China and other countries under the framework of the free trade area, which is an important act in the promotion of China’s further opening up the services and conducive to China deeply involved in international cooperation , carrying out the multilateral, regional and bilateral negotiations in the fields of trade in services, creating the conditions and accumulating experiences.This paper is written from the "Trade in Services Agreement" which is as an entry point and on the basis of studying the cooperation between China and ASEAN in the field of trade in services. Then the writer analyzes the backgrounds, the status quo and characteristics of the China - ASEAN cooperation, carries out the empirical analysis on the international competitiveness and barriers to trade in services, discusses the problems, development and the prospects of trade in services of China -the ASEAN, and brings forward the corresponding measurements and proposals on the basis of above analysis as a useful reference to promote China - ASEAN cooperation in trade in services.
