Abstract


This dissertation chooses village Ding of XiangFen county in Shanxi province as an example and the traditional Spring Festival of "national intangible cultural heritage" as the target, mainly applies the methodologies of field research and analyzes Spring Festival in modern times under the circumstance of cultural interspaces—village combing with the methodologies of document and oral record. It is hoped that the protective suggestions for fade-out spring festival celebration in modern time could be raised.The contents are divided into introduction, four chapters and conclusion.The introduction talks about the significance of research topic, state of the art, origin of reference and relevant definitions.The first chapter explores the environment of birth and development of Spring Festival in Village Ding so as to form a foundation for the following discussion.The second chapter traces back to the peak time of traditional Spring festival celebration in Village Ding in order to probe into the correlation between traditional Spring Festival and village life and how traditional Spring Festival constitutes village culture and serves people’s life.The third chapter aims to search the statues quo of the village Ding’s Spring Festival based upon the history of it and the fade-out conditions of Spring Festival in modern times in view of localized explanation of spring festival understood by people.The fourth chapter analyses the representation and reasons of the fade-out Spring Festival in village Ding. It also touches upon the deficiency of Spring Festival connotation, lose of customs, disintegration of people’s belief and lose of collective memory for Spring Festival. In this regard, the root of fade-out Spring Festival could be found out from the perspectives of changing natural environment of the village, the interference of government and the transformation of people’s ideas .The concluding part underlines the prospect of Spring Festival in modern times and seeks the realistic solutions to problems concerning the reality of field research.The significance of this research topic lies in the following two aspects. First, this dissertation is for the reference of Spring Festival in modern times, because it processes numerous first-hand materials and is meaningful for festival research as it involves village’s Spring Festival. Second, this research topic enjoys a realistic significance from the application of folk customs. The research of fade-out Spring festival could raise our attention to it and reevaluate Spring Festival. Therefore, this dissertation is also for the benefit of recognition and protection of Spring Festival.
