Abstract


With the development of container transport, container leasing becomes a new industry. Container leasing companies have many advantages in container’s operation and management, such as avoiding the loss of idle time of container for non-production and saving for management cost of container for shipping companies, reducing the natural depletion of container, avoiding the cost of empty container allocating and transporting because of the imbalance of the flow of goods, reducing production investment of shipping company, etc. thus they develop rapidly in recent years. Because of being a new industry for container leasing, the research achievements in the field are very limited and the container leasing business dispute often appear in practice, it is necessary to analyze and research the operation and management for the container leasing companies.Container leasing industry has characteristics of higher risk and higher investment. In view of the instability, non-standard of the shipping market and the cost of capital, an increasing number of shipping companies tend to rent a certain percentage of containers. As a result of the rapid development of China’s container transportation, a certain scale has been formed in container leasing market, while a large number of container leasing companies appeared.Due to the high cost of the acquisition of container, the first thing to consider for the leasing company is to control a quantity of containers, which not only can meet the volume of customer demand, but also keep the minimum amount of idle container in the off-season, that is to say, the company can achieve maximum economic benefits. Therefore, it is vital for the container leasing company to set the reasonable allocation number of containers.Based on the analysis of distribution container and application conditions of the container leasing company, this essay studies theories and methods which determine the proportion and the number of container owned and container leasing according to the principle of a reasonable investment and the optimal benefits. Combining closely container owned which has lower cost with container leasing which has a higher flexibility, the container leasing companies can choose the right strategies of purchasing and leasing and determine a reasonable container leasing scale. The research conclusion provides scientific basis for the container leasing company in making decision for purchasing and leasing of container.
