Abstract


As the world has entered the era of energy scarcity, the coalbed methane (CBM), as a no conventional natural gas resources, has attracted more and more attention from many countries in the world. China has rich coalbed methane resources and has a broad development prospects, but there still exists a lot of problems in the industry of development coalbed methane such as facing with the shortage of funding sources, the single main investment, low investment efficiency, and other issues. How to expand the sources of funding channels, promote the main investment diversification, improve investment efficiency, is the only way to speed up the development of chinese coal bed methane. Project financing rose in the 1970s, which was applied in the large-scale infrastructure construction projects and energy projects as a finance model, and it rapidly rose in international capital markets. Therefore, the research on the project financing models in the application of coalbed methane industry is of great practical significance.This paper firstly describes the basic theory of project financing, combining with the characteristics of coalbed methane industry, then describes the concrete application of project financing in the coalbed methane industry. Secondly, this paper has analysised the optional project financing models in chinese coalbed methane industry, and compared the applicability, advantages and disadvantages of various project financing models, then raised that there may be applied asset-backed securities to develop the chinese coalbed methane-rich region and discussed the application steps in detail of this model. Thirdly, this paper has analyzed the project financing risks which were faced in the chinese coalbed methane industry, and on the basis of identification, provided a great of risk strategies to deal with the project financing risks. Finally, this paper analyzed the specific issues and gave some practical recommendations for the development of chinese coalbed methane industry project financing.Under the background of the coalbed methane industry rapid development, this paper make a great significance for accelerating the pace of developing chinese coalbed methane industry and promoting the coalbed methane project commercialization.
