In recent years, for solving the problems appeared in industrial control field, such as inconsistent bus standards, poor interoperability, Ethernet technology has been applied to industrial control field. In order to meet the strict real-time and high time accuracy requirements of industrial control applications, several standards organizations have put forward corresponding real-time Ethernet technology. Based on point-to-multipoint architecture, a Real-time Ethernet Passive Optical Network(REPON) has been presented and implemented by our group before, which has advantages of both passive optical network and real-time Ethernet: guaranteed real-time, simplicity, and high reliability. To ensure the efficient, stable and continuous operation of REPON, it’s significant to design an effective OAM(Operation Administration Management) management mechanism for REPON.This paper researches and designs an OAM Management protocol with automatic node discovery and registration, fault detection, real-time alerting, configuration and performance statistics for REPON, implemented the OAM protocol on FPGA hardware platform, and conduct corresponding system test on a REPON tested.Firstly, this thesis describes the existing types of Ethernet OAM protocol implementations, gives REPON real-time Optical Ethernet network architecture, protocol model, and time slot allocation mechanism. From REPON applications and requirements perspective, we analyze and design the functional classification and definitions of REPON OAM protocols, and give the corresponding OAM management frames for node registration, configuration, statistics functions. Then, OAM control protocols for both central node and access node are implemented on FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) platform. the implementation scheme of main module are presented, and simulated by Modelsim software .Finally, a 100Mbps REPON-OAM test network is built to verify the implemented REPON OAM protocol. The results show that the OAM can guarantee the robustness and reliability of the REPON by supporting the discovery and registration of new access node, configuration of network operating parameters, monitor of network performance, and timely management of network failures.
