Abstract


So far, great progress has been made by scholars home and abroad about theory and practice of ancient cities and part of towns with high development value, however, we are facing at present a tough but urgent question about protecting general historical and cultural heritage. The protection of historical and cultural heritage of general small towns, especially when nowadays large scale development has been made in small towns, has made important significance on continuing local cultural context of small towns, maintaining and establishing the image of towns.Chaling ancient town is located in southeast of Zhuzhou city, Hunan province, with typical characteristics of historical and cultural heritage of general small towns: backward economy, downfall and lackluster, and poor historical atmosphere with massive new buildings and few historical elements being together. Starting from the situation of ancient towns and combining the theory and practice home and abroad, the internal characteristics of ancient towns have been discussed deeply in this paper, which provides some methods to protect and update the ancient towns.Chapter 1. The background of research object has been discussed in the exordium, as well as the core of research content, the method and the frame.Chapter 2. The historical situation and culture has been discussed. Ttogether with the protection and update of the towns.Chapter 3. The development, and the characteristics of ancient towns have been discussed far-reaching, which provides the basis of protection and update.Chapter 4.The theory and practice of“protection”and“update”of historical and cultural heritage domestic and international has been analyzed. This chapter also pointed out that the principles and methods domestic and international have made certain guiding significance to the protection and update of Chaling historical town.Chapter 5 .Study combining the present situation faced by the ancient town and the theory and practice of relevant historical and cultural protection zones. This chapter put forward certain views about concrete measures of ancient town’s protection and update.
