Abstract

The quality of Scientific and technological personnel is critical for innovation. Since the last two decades, the developed countries such as the United States, European countries have set off a wave of education reform project, aiming at promoting human resources strategy. In this context, it becomes the top priority to intensify the engineering training and to enhance the practice of engineering education in the process of engineering science and technology personnel cultivation.Bases on the integration of the research on engineering education and engineering training at home and abroad, the paper proposes to build a platform for engineering training under the concept of systematic engineering educational philosophy. Through the elaboration of engineering education, engineering training of related concepts and theories of organizational structure and platform, the paper gives the definition of engineering training platform.Through a systematic study of the global wave of engineering education reform, the status of foreign engineering training and overall development trends, and the status quo of Chinese current engineering training and engineering training center, the paper reveals that the most serious problem which restricted the sustained, rapid and sound development of engineering training in China is as follows: the training -objective fuzzy, the narrow functions position, the outdated management system and operational mechanism, training and other aspects of the thin training content, resource constraint. The paper raises the idea to solve the problem: First, there is an urgent need to make the issue of training objectives more clearly, second is to promote the evolution of organizational structure of the engineering training center; the last is to expand the functions of platform for engineering training.The paper summarizes the Body of Knowledge civil engineering of the United States, the Engineering training model of Michigan University study, and best practices of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Industrial Centre for case study. The paper also selects the engineering training center of Zhejiang University for comparative analysis. Through the case study, the paper draws out that it is necessary to build engineering training center which intergrates three functions: Training and R&D, Management and Cooperation, under the guidance of the objectives of the engineering education reform. The paper also proposes the operation mechanism and supporting environment of the engineering training platform.As the reform of China’s engineering education has only just begun, our task is arduous and our road will be long and tortuous. I hope the research of engineering training platform will modestly contribute to promote the development of engineering education and to enhance the capability of independent innovation of China.
