Chinese Pun is a rhetoric which express two aspects meanings by one word or sentence. For a long time, reserachers pay more attention to the characters the Pun shows in the language performance level as the same voice、semantic. the classification of Pun also reflects the cognitive impact on people. With the development of cognitive linguistics, some scholars begin to re-examine the language, and the Pun. Both sentences and rhetoric are used for communicating, showing meanings the speakers want to express, Pun is no exception. Then how can Pun achieve meanings in the aspects of cognitive, whether Pun can be explained as cognitive mechanisms, if we can describe the effect of expression in the level of congnition? For these problems, we try to use semantic konwledge on cognitive linguistics、cognitive theory of pragmatics to definite Pun. In the end, we attempt to look at Pun from a new perspective which is different from the traditional rhetoric.We deem that Pun is a language phenomenon which relys on one language material to activate two different cognitive domains, and the language material will establish a connection between the cognitive domain. So one language material can express two meanings. The meaning of words is not an independent existence, it has its own significance domain, and it need to be cognitivated in the domain, so as the Pun. Basic cognitive domain can be used to explain each other between different domain. The cognitive domain activated by Pun can also be set up some certain links in order to show communicative significance, this is the nature of Pun.According to different way of link between the two domains, we classify the Pun as voice link pun, double link pun, context link pun, structure link pun. With regarding to the conception defined by traditional rhetoric, we consider it as the different domians activated by different words which can providing us enough image icons. Although there are certain similarity of classification, the difference is we have the basic of new perspective of Cognitive Science which is different from the way of language expression exterior . Pun, as a Rhetoric, involoved in verbal communication, and also it is a process of construction of meaning. We think that the generation of Pun and the language patterns are follows: Cognitive domain 1 words or sentence Cognitive domain 2 Dominant meaning———→inner meaning " inner meaning "words=〝Dominant meaning〞words+voice?context+focusOn this basis, the establishment of pun need to clarify the understanding state of speakers、social context、the possibility of language and so on. According to Mr Lv Mingchenˊassumption of meaning construction, we try to describe the construction process of Pun. For the generation of puns, we will discuss the four steps and analysis above also, The step of“formation of assumption”includes two aspects of Communication assumptions and Cognitive context assumptions, After the establishment of the basic assumptions, certain form of words is used to show the communicative intention, which relates to the choice of forms of discourse stage. Two aspects in the stage of choice are essential, one is“topic”, the other one is“accessibility of the language”, the stronger availability the words have, the greater possibility the expression chooses.Expression of Pun is related to language forms and language effect. For the aspect of language forms, Pun has the function of beauty of music、simplicity which is regard to be true, but it is not good enough in explaining. Effect evaluation is often mixed with subjective element, it is unreliable for the evaluation. We have propsed a system of SCDR——Subject,Creation,Difference,Hidden convergence. If one of the characteristics was highlighted, the Pun will appear.Above all, Pun acts as one language referring to two cognitive domain. Pun will show different forms as for different ways of link. Pun is a dynamic process of meaning construction. Because of Subject, Creation, Difference, Hidden convergence, Pun has the effects of expression.
