Abstract

The Anglo-American literary theory as "New Criticism" originated during the 20th century, 20, developed during 30thand40th.And, in the middle of the 20th century, it became the leading literary critics and the mainstream in the United States.Although in the late fifties, the New Criticism have been declined, its promotion and practice of text analysis is still one of the basic methods of literary criticism.The rising of New Criticism in the United States could not be separated from the promoting of the South of,and J.C.Ransom is one of the representatives. And, as some researchers put it, whether as a poet,one of the mumber of"agricultural school" groups or "New Criticism" theorists,there is a main line runs through his life, that is , Paying Close Attention to of natural and physical properties.When it comes to Ransom’s critisism ,It was profoundly manifested in the following ways:advocating the study of literater itself.Ransom said that,differenting with the scientific’s effort of trying to abstract and well-organize the intricate complexity world ,literater try to restore the origianl state of the world,which has been Over-abstracted by scitific andtry to integrate pople’s emotional and rational,what have also been damaged by Scientific’s over-abstraction over the original world.The object world of poetry is an original,’ontology’world ranther than an abstracted one.so poetry which try to imitate, to describe the‘ontology’of this world should be an‘ontology’poetry ,or how can it imitate the exogenous world of objective? This is the essence and the characteristics of the poetry.Since literature is a complete multi-layered art object,and an independent, self-contained world of literature itself is the origin of literary activities. So, when engaged in literary criticism,people should focus on literary works itself, rather than just focus on the social and historical value of literature.Then,what kind of critisism is the literary criticism Ransom agreed with? He put forward a criticism theory,which has been called”structure/texture”by later researchers,Ransom has definited the poem as a loose logic,which coherented with the local sarcoplasmic. Poetry is is composed of two parts :a logical structure and texture. The formeris the logical point of viewof the poetry,it satisfyed the people’s intellectual interest , a poetry which its content lacks logic could not attacrt people’s interest .what’s more important, it has provided an structure which texture can be attached to.In Ransom’s theory, texture is much more important than structure, it can be simplly interpreted as the part, which bear the responsibility of expression of the whole meaning of the poetry and, at the same time, deviated from the local of the whole poetry. it contents logic elements and rhythm .The logic elements content the logic and the rhythmic contents the conventional structure of rhythmic and the rhythmic variations. and they forms an treelike shape of criticism.
