Abstract


Tepper (2000) defined abusive supervision as“subordinates perceptions of the extent to which supervisors engage in the sustained display of hostile verbal and nonverbal behaviors,excluding physical contact”.This study focused on the relationship between Abusive Supervision and the mental health,and analyzing how the moderator impact this relationship.The study also measured the personality trait of the senior official,discussed which trait have influenced the leadership behavior.This study used survey research methods, have revised the questionnaire from Zongyou Wu to fit for research at home.With explorative factor analysis, we got a one-dimensional abusive supervision questionnaire, and used confirmatory factor analysis to have a confirmatory.In the study,we choosed 505 ordinary soldiers and 56 their direct higher-level as the samples. Correlation analysis,regression analysis, hierarchical regression analysis and T test was used in the research.On the foundation of a wide range of literature available some domestic and foreign latest articles,research analyzed the relationship of abusive supervision with mental health and other variables, the main conclusions drawn are as follows:1. Abusive supervision and mental health were significantly correlated, Abusive supervision have a significant prediction effect on mental health.2. Active coping style and mental health was negatively correlated, negative coping style and mental health were significantly correlated. Two dimensions of coping styles have a significant prediction effect on the psychological health.3. Positive and negative coping styles moderate the relationship between abusive supervision and mental health.Coping styles also moderate the relationship between abusive supervision and mental health4. For the Big Five Personality, neuroticism, extraversion and Agreeableness have significant correlate with the abusive supervision leadership style.Amog the three personality trait, leaders who has high scores on neuroticism and extraversion have more abusive supervision behavior,leaders who has high scores on Agreeableness have less abusive supervision behavior.
