Abstract


The key issue of the sustainability of Rural credit cooperatives (RCCs) is whether the RCCs can get the win-win situation in the business of credit for agriculture for RCCs. For one thing, it is obvious that the Chinese government has a firm determination to solve and to support the problems facing to rural area, peasantry and agriculture, as well as to cultivate financial institutions which can be sustainable. For another thing, the credit for agriculture of Chinese RCCs are, in some degree, restricted by the regulators, but also suffered from the pressure of the intense competition in the market. Actually, the number of the credit for agriculture has increased in recent years, but the sustainability of RCCs becomes a controversial issue. Therefore, based on the requirements of regulators and the efficiency of credit for agriculture, this paper analyzes the sustainability of RCCs. The dissertation mainly focuses on exploring whether there is one growth path which can make the RCCs be sustainable among numerous development paths. Additionally, the dissertation analyzes the conditions of sustainability for RCCs. The following closely, we evaluate the sustainability of Chinese RCCs and several related countermeasure proposals are put forward.The dissertation firstly analyzes the main characteristics of the sustainability of RCCs, and uses a dynamic framework to explore the growth path of the proportion of income from credit for agriculture. Crucial conclusions are drawn as follows, there is a growth path which can make the RCCs be sustainable, if local economy and the managent of RCCs reach a certain level, as well as the two operating parameters: the contribution to the growth of operating income from the growth of income from credit for agriculture, and the growth rate of operating income meet certain condition. What’s more, the dissertation gives the path simulation by the dynamic model to reinforce the practice of model, which demonstrates the two conditions play extremely important roles. In addition, the dissertation evaluates the sustainability of Chinese RCCs by empirical analysis, which brings up the fact that, these are possibilities to be sustainable for Chinese RCCs. Finally, related policy suggestions are put forward.
