In this paper,based on domestic and overseas research work on freezing and thawing laws of concrete and application of artificial neural networks(ANNs) in civil engineering,the mechanism and effective factors of the freezing and thawing laws of concrete and application of artificial neural networks on concrete durability are particularly discussed,the theoretical foundation is established to use artificial neural networks in freezing and thawing laws of concrete.The following research works are carried out:(1) The background and research situation of freezing and thawing laws were discussed.Also,the effective factors and formulas of freezing and thawing were summarized.Application of artificial neural networks in concrete durability was introduced in this paper.(2) The development of artificial neural net works and its basic theory were introduced in this paper.The structure of artificial neural net was analyzed.Based on the freezing and thawing laws of concrete,the BP neural network which is widely used and highly efficient was established.(3) According to the freezing and thawing laws of concrete and structure of artificial neural networks,the paper based on the neural network toolbox of MATLAB selected BP neural network to predict the laws of dynamic elastic modulus,cube compressive strength,compression strength of the prism and biaxial compression strength which are effected by water-cement ratio,cement volume,stress ratio as well as the number of freeze-thaw,the error diagrams basing on basic BP algorithm were given in the paper.According to lots of calculation and comparison between the simulation results,the paper finally proves that the BP neural network could be used to carry out the simulation of the freeze-thaw laws;also the research results can be directly used in analysis and provides foundation for the prediction of the freeze-thaw laws of concrete.This study may serve as theory foundation to further research of the application of artificial neural networks and pratical application of the prediction of the freeze-thaw laws of concrete.
