Abstract


OBJECTIVE: To investigate the etiology, and therapies, and the relative advancement of pseudohypoparathyroidism.METHODS: Clinical datas of 14 patients with pseudohypoparathyroidism were analyzed retrospectively by carefully reviewing the medical records of 14 cases in NO.1 Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January 1970 to March 2009.RESULTS: There were 7 males and 7 females. Clinical features: (1) The age of onset: 4 monthes to 30 years old; (2) No family history, except 1 patient; (3) The preliminary symptoms included hyperspasmia in all patients, 7 patients had epilepsy; (4) laboratory and instrument: All patients had hypocalcaemia and high serum parathyroid hormone, 13 patients had hyperphosphatemia (92.6 percent) and 8 patients had low urino-calcium (57.1 percent), 10 patients had low urino-phosphonium (71.4 percent); (5) misdiagnosis: 1 patient was misdiagnosed for periodic paralysis and 6 patients for hypocalcemia and 2 patients for hypoparathyroidism and 3 patients for epilepsy. 1 patient hadn’t been diagnosed for 22 years; (6) complications: One patient had deuto-clinical hypothyroidism, 3 patients had renal tubule acidosis, 2 patients had cataracta, 1 patient showed renal inadequacy; (7) 9 patients had calcification in brain, 4 patients had AHO characteristic; (8) therapies and prognosis: all patients had taken calcium and vitamin D and never had hyperspasmia for the duration of hospital stay.CONCLUSION: clinicians should alert to the manifest ations related to hypocalcaemia and hyperspasmia especially with typical AHO characteristic in youth people and check their calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid and thyroid hormone levels in blood serum and brain CT upon the episodes of the symptoms. For acute and chronic therapies, patients should take calcium and vitamin D or AT-10 in the whole life.
