Abstract

We generally paint still life and models in a bright and spacious studio.We usually study color and structure under the bright natural light.And we accumulate a lot of knowledge and experiences after a long period of time.We not only understand the color and the size of objects under natural light at the daytime very well,but also form a relatively complete system of observation and performance on them.In generally, because of these reasons:such as the researching on knowledge of color and performance techniques mainly pays more attention on color space and source size during the daytime;The study on night painting is very rare,and sometimes we makes a very brief introduction on night painting;It is very difficult for us to paint the scenes directly at night,so we always depend on memory and image creation;We have not even laid a systematic foundation for basic observation and performance theory of night painting,etc,all of these reasons result in a serious of problems:we can not distinguish the color and the size of objects during painting night landscape because of the want of the systematic theory on observation and performance techniques;The performance of the night is not true,stiff,because we can only paint the oil-painting by the means of using the experiences on color and space of objects which we accumulates in the daytime.The night oil painting has always been regarded as a branch of the landscape oil painting.However,from the light and color’s points of view,the night oil-painting is opposite to the daytime’s.No matter in the pure night painting or the background and environment of figure drawing,the performance of night landscape will be full used. The difference of our visual and psychological experiences between daytime and night leads to the unique artistic and emotional character of night landscape.Although the works concerning night landscape are very limited,there have several well-known night paintings in the history of oil painting,such as Van Gogh’s "Star","Open-air Cafes at Night," "Night Cafe","the Starry Night-sur-Rhone ";Pissarro’s" Montmartre night ", Chi’s" on the Dnieper River,"Levi tan’s" Moonlight "and so on.In conclusion,the theory of the night oil painting is roughly and unsystematically.Confronted with the problem which we have mentioned above,this article will donate to the comprehensive and detailed analysis and discussion of night landscape oil painting.This article will be divided into five sections.ChapterⅠ,it mainly introduces the developing process of night landscape oil painting and some typical artists and works.ChapterⅡ,the unique artistic feature of night landscape oil painting will be demonstrated from the following three parts:the hazy beauty,lyrical character and unique emotional feature.ChapterⅢ,it is on color and space knowledge of night landscape oil painting.ChapterⅣ,it sums up the techniques and experiences of the performance of night painting.The last chapter is the conclusion.
