A Case Control Study of Cognitive Change for Higher and Lower Hypnotic Susceptible Group after Hypnotic Suggestion

Abstract


Objective: Aim is to study cognitive changes for the higher and the lower hypnotic susceptible groups before and after posthypnotic suggestion. To provide scientific evidences for apply mesmerism to clinic.Methods: 1. Testee are all grade 3 students from Dalian Medical University clinical medicine and imaging art department, and are all volunteers. We screen out 64 students from them with Chinese revision Stanford hypnotic sensitivity scale C type (SGHSS: C), and then divided 64 students into 4 groups, they are higher hypnotic susceptibility (≧ 7) and posthypnotic suggestion group(H+H), and higher hypnotic susceptibility (≧ 7) and control group(H+C), and lower hypnotic susceptibility (≦4) and posthypnotic suggestion group(H+H), and lower susceptibility (≦4) and control group(H+C). 2. Cognitional assessments are completed with 4 neuropsychological tests, they are Chinese version of Stroop color-word interference tests, Line orientation judgment test, Picture freely recall test, Visual recognition test. Anterior 2 index test presented on the Windows XP are programmed with special psychological development software E-prime (version1.1). Twice cognitional assessments are completed for per group, interval time is 30 minute, and every time has received 4 kinds cognitional assessments. 3. Database has been analyzed with SPSS17.0 version statistics software. We adopt t test and one-way ANOVA test.Results: Cognitive assessment before hypnotic suggestion, There are no significant different during the 4 groups, cognitive psychological evaluations included of 3 kinds reaction time (ms) and error numbers of Stroop color-word interference test, and the reaction time and error numbers of the Line orientation judgment test, and the score of Picture freely recall and Recognition test; 2. Cognitive assessment after posthypnotic suggestion, in Stroop color-word interference test, we found significantly reduced reaction time and the error numbers in higher susceptibility group to posthypnotic suggestion; and significant decrease also in reaction time and error numbers in the Line orientation judgment test, and Scores are remarkably increase in Picture freely recall and visual recognition. There are not significant different in Lower susceptibility to hypnosis in the cognitive between the twice assesment.Conclusion : There are no significant different during 4 groups before mesmerism, they have comparability. Stroop affect exist in the 4 groups. Cognitional changes are observed after posthypnotic suggestion. Lack of cognitive changes suggested in lower hypnotic susceptibility persons. Cognitional changes include of decrease the Stroop interference reaction and promote organizes ability of visual space perception and increase reaction speed of visual perception and the memory ability of picture in a short time, but did not influenced by posthypnotic suggestion to lower hypnotic susceptibility persons.
