Because of its inability to contend against the increasing materialization tendency of the society,literature is facing a gradual marginalization.Pioneer writers underwent a“collective transformation”,caused by a turning point in history.During this process,Gefei, as an intellectual,reappears n this literary world.He chooses Utopia,age-old but great,as his topic.Keeping a cool head,he tries to seek for the remained spiritual value and construct a new spiritual dimension in this materialized society.By analyzing Gefei’s recently published books《Ren mian tao hua》and《Shan he ru meng》,this thesis, combining with people’s current living condition,is going to probe into the constructive significance in awakening and reconstructing Utopia spirit in the modem world.This thesis will be divided into three parts:the first part,on the narrative level,analyzes that Gefei’s novel is a“Utopian narrative in an anti-utopian way”,thus pointing out the absurdity of Utopian thought when put into practice.The second part pays close attention to people’s current living condition on a spiritual dimension,indicating that Gefei has been trying to, through his works,awaken the Utopian thought hidden in the depth of people’s hearts,so as to redeem people from the current condition.The third part,on the level of textual features,analyzes the poetic quality in Gefei’s writings,pointing out the necessity of holding onto dreams.
