The rapid development of distance education has enriched the accesses to higher education,but at the same time,witnessed some problems,for example,learners are not skilled in autonomous learning and are not very active in on-line learning.Then,how to assure the effectiveness of web-based education? To answer this question,the author assumes that the effective learning monitor implemented in the learning processes plays an extremely important role.Through analyzing the previous researches and conducting a survey,this dissertation 1) analyzes the current issues involved in the learning monitor,2) in view of the shortage of the existing learning monitor,analyzes the influence of e-portfolio as a leaning monitor tool in improving the effectiveness of learning,3) explores the monitoring strategies utilized in the processes of on-line learning and proposes a learning monitor model based on e-portfolio,4) basing on the proposed model,develops the e-portfolio and then implements the portfolio in a web-based course,5) analyzes the effect of putting the e-portfolio into practice to test the validity of the proposed model.This dissertation consists of six chapters.Chapter one raises the research questions; introduces the previous studies;presents the research goals,significance,objectives and methods.Chapter two briefly introduces learning monitoring and the e-portfolio;analyzes the feasibility of putting the learning monitor into service in web-based education;and also analyzes the reasons for the lacking of monitoring in the present situation of on-line learning. Chapter three presents the survey carried out in On-line Education College,and to meet the needs of teachers and students this chapter proposes the monitoring strategies in the processes of on-line learning.Based on the analysis of the monitoring strategies,chapter four is on the designation and exploration of the e-portfolio.This chapter introduces the visible processing of constructing the e-portfolio system and presents the completed interface that realizes functions.Chapter five shows that the e-portfolio was put into practice and the feedback of its effect was collected in a survey.The feedback combined with the data obtained in the process of utilizing the e-portfolio is analyzed to test the validity of the monitoring system.Chapter six summarizes the whole thesis,comes up with the research results and gives suggestions for the future researches.The results of the present research showed that 1) the monitoring strategy developed by the research was demonstrated effective when it was implemented in learning the course offered by On-line Education College 2) the learning monitor was welcomed by learners when they were in web-based learning 3) learners became more active,more skilled in self-disciplining and more skilled in interacting with teachers and peers.Moreover,under the supervision of the learning monitor,learners can be more significantly engaged in learning.
