Abstract

In today’s information society, knowledge、methods and the basic idea of Probability and Statistics has a very wide range of applications in people’s daily lives and work of the study, well, the normal distribution as an important distribution of Probability and Statistics plays a more important role. The objective of this study is to analyze the pre-service teachers’(Normal University students in all grades) understanding level of normal distribution and to explore the law of the understanding level of normal distribution and to find out the main error, What’s more, we hope to improve and promote the pre-service teachers in the development of professional knowledge. In this research, we choose 121 students randomly from one Teachers Colleges of Mathematics and Statistics directly under the Ministry of Education as sample, and analyze their understanding level of normal distribution. Among them, there are 37 students from junior, 35 students from senior, 49 students from graduate. In this study, questions compiled by researchers were used, collective test was selected, and some students were interviewed in order to get their true thoughts. All date were analyze statistically. At last, the understanding level of the pre-service teachers’normal distribution and its law were opened out.According to the institutions of higher learning textbook about Probability and Statistics and some suggestions from several experts, we divide the understanding level into four levels, and test integratedly from six dimensions. The study showed that: the understanding level of normal distribution in graduate students is slightly higher than that of senior students, which is higher than that of junior students, and significantly higher than that of junior students. Through the investigation and analysis, this study summarized the main problems of pre-service teachers understanding normal distribution: There is no deep understanding of the basic concepts, formulas, and the nature, and often confused; Faced with the problem of the practical application and the calculation, they have no ability to resolve; Can’t test the data whether is subject to normal distribution. Finally, this study analysis the causes of errors from pre-service teachers’own factors, teachers and teaching, aspects of the curriculum, and gives some recommendations.
