Abstract

Since 1970’s, TiO2 has been great expected on photocatalytic degradation organics mainly attributed to its excellent properties by national researchers. In order to improve its application value further and realize industrialization early, all sorts of researches on the modification of TiO2 emerge endlessly. In recent years, the preparation of porous TiO2 with larger surface area has become one of the focuses in the researches field.Template sol-gel method is widely applied for synthetizing porous materials. In this paper, TiO2 films were synthesized by dip-coating technique on glass slides with a self-made tiras machine, on the basis of the nonionic surfactant template theory and sol-gel theory. The influenting factors of preparating porous TiO2 films with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and eighteenth amine (ODA) were mainly studied, while composite templates made up of PEG and ODA was researched preliminarily. Photocatalytic performance of TiO2 films were evaluated through the degradation of the methyl orange solution under UV lamp, and the photoelectrocatalytic experiments were deployed with the TiO2/Ti film eletrode prepared in optimized conditions of three preparation schemes without template agent, adding template PEG and adding template ODA.There are some conclusions as followed. 1) The photocatalytic performance and membrane structure of TiO2 films preparated at 500 oC, calcining for 2 h were best. Templates had no effect on the crystal structure of catalysts. The TiO2 power preparated by adding PEG, ODA and composite templates were at mesoporous level. Compared with smooth TiO2 film, the photocatalytic activitise of porous TiO2 films prepared with templates were improved and the reuse performance of porous TiO2 films prepared by adding PEG and ODA were more excellent. 2) The size and density of pores on the surface of films are related to the quantity and molecular weight of the template PEG. The diameter of pores in the films synthesized by PEG with low molecular weight was smaller and the density was higher. Comparatively, the distribution of the pores became looser with the high molecular agent. Both of the diameter and distribution of the pores changed with with increase of quantity of PEG and reach maximum at 2.0 g, and the catalytic performance of the film is optimal with 2.0 g of PEG. 3) The amount of ODA was the principal influenting factors on physicochemical property and photocatalytic activity of TiO2 films. The special surface area of TiO2 powder prepared with 2.0 g of ODA was largest, and the density of pores was higher. The catalytic performance of samples were preferable with quantity of ODA betwween 1.0 and 2.5 g. 4) From the photoelectrocatalytic perspective, synergetic effect could be expected when electro-degradation and photocatalytic oxidation processes occurred at the same time. Porous TiO2 thin films prepared with templates expressed more powerful PEC degradation property.
