In recent years, many cities have also built a number of services to the elderly in the city center district, its development and construction has become increasingly concerned about social issues and the industry. Xi’an is also a bridgehead for developing the western region the most comprehensive strength northwest city of Xi’an City selected by the status of research on the type of building, combined with other cases, summed up the status of problems, namely building land area of polarization, quite different; lack of communication space diversity; outdoor space venue small; lack of accessible design considerations; architectural form featureless or integration with the surrounding environment, and insufficient and so on.Involved in this research are: First, in our aging, spiritual and cultural needs of older persons in the context of increasing summarized previous activity center on the old architectural design experience and research. Next, select the Xi’an City, the existing three district centers in the site selection elderly, functional layout and spatial characteristics, outdoor environment, site survey and questionnaires, survey results were analyzed by comparing, summing up our city district center construction status of the elderly problems. Finally, this research the actual situation of older persons can make a good strategy for optimal design of the built environment. The thesis has six chapters, the structure into four parts, progressive layers between the various parts, linked together.The first part is the first chapter, is the introduction, this part of the questions. The first chapter describes the background of this research, the study objectives, contents and significance of the literature reviewed, the study established the starting point and direction, finally, summarizes the research methods and framework.The second part includes the second, third and fourth chapters, the main common characteristics of the elderly, urban district status and development center for senior citizens and the status of research, this part is to analyze the problem is one of the main body. The second chapter is to analyze the elderly physical, psychological and behavioral characteristics; the third chapter of the city center district classification of the elderly, domestic and international development status, functional properties, etc. are summarized;Ⅳ, select Xi’an City, for example, three instances of its site investigation, summarize and analyze the reasons for current situation. This part is to analyze the problem, start paving the way for the following research work.The third part is the fifth chapter of this part is to solve the problem.
