Abstract


Relations on handicraft and modern industrialization , historians have been arguing about one of the topics . Which there are two views : One is that both promote complementary relations , namely the development of the handicraft industry to promote a recent national machinery industry ; Another view is that a vicious competition between handicraft the presence hindered the development of modern industry . In this paper, the hosiery industry in the south of the Yangtze River , for example , around the the handmade sock and industrial hosiery two category of capital investment , the relationship between workers ' wages and product market rival industrial and modern industrialization for further exploration . The text of this paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter , by the nature of capital organization of the industrial Wachang , and handmade Wachang of two category , capital investment per worker capital comparison , industrial Wachang in the above three handmade Wachang dominant , but the industry hosiery and stocking knitters have the same increase investment difficulties , lack of funding is a common problem faced by the entire modern industrial development . The second chapter, by the comparative industrial Wachang and handmade socks factory workers wages , and to estimate the two category of workers in the prevailing price level required for basic living expenses , known of living Industrial Wachang workers in the top of the food and clothing , and hand- the socks factory workers to live below the poverty line , leading to the rural surplus labor transfer from the handicraft sector to the urban industrial sector . The third chapter of of the industrial socks factory , and handmade Wachang the products and their sales market were discussed. Although similar to the machine of hosiery and hands hosiery varieties , due to the quality of the product , so the price of similar products from both departments . Because they face different consumer groups , hand hosiery and machine hosiery may not compete in the same market . Epilogue , the author pointed out that the handicraft and modern industrial relations , complementary to the mainstream , and the competition is secondary . As for the reason of the late 1920s , early 1930s , the difficulties faced by modern industrial development and decline , should be read in conjunction with the background of the economic crisis in the world at the time to explain .
