Abstract


Mr. Cai Jingmin, the pioneer professor of bamboo pipe in china, plays an important part in the creation, performance and teaching of bamboo pipe and the innovation of musical instruments. He is also one of the earliest performers who has made the perform symbols of bamboo pipe standard. At present the study of the professor is not very perfect, and I think that we should deal with his style of performance, characteristic of creation, teaching of bamboo pipe and innovation of musical instruments in order to study the professor’s accomplishment.In this article I will research into the professor’s accomplishment from the following four aspects. First, the style of performance. His style, which is based in the musical culture of central China, is simple and hearty, rich and colorful. At the same time he plays the bamboo pipe with exquisite technique, and the audiences are always moved by his performance. Second, the characteristic of creation. His works deal with many kinds of subjects, and each of them has its own characteristic. Third, the teaching of bamboo pipe. He devotes himself to the development of Chinese bamboo pipe performance. He has a large number of students, and some of them have become famous in and abroad. Fourth, the innovation of bamboo pipe. He began to study the Equal Temperaments and the woodwind instrument of the west in the early 1970s, and managed to invent the new bamboo pipe. From then on he began to set up the system of performing and teaching of the new bamboo pipe.
