Research purpose of this experimental study in elderly edentulous patients vertical distance and bite force, chewing EMG amplitude relationship, establish normal vertical distance to provide a reference for clinical. Materials and Methods The subjects from Zhejiang University Affiliated Stomatological hospital 10 elderly edentulous patients, good health, no obvious stomatognathic system diseases. The conventional method to determine the normal occlusal vertical dimension, making self-curing resin temporary denture base. The normal occlusion vertical distance of the reference bit (M bits), by varying the placement and Out Underpinning the number of pieces of metal, in 0.5mm intervals to form a 13 occlusal vertical distance. Bite force measuring applications edentulous patients 13 occlusal vertical maximum bite force beam before bilateral temporal muscle, masseter EMG activity recorded simultaneously with multi-channel physiological signal acquisition instrument to biting force, standardized EMG amplitude and the EMG amplitude / bite force ratio as an indicator statistics. Results 1, the edentulous patients clenching force with occlusal vertical increase increase increase or decrease from the normal occlusal vertical distance of 1.5mm and above start significant difference (p lt; 0.05) 2, standardized bite muscle electrical amplitude with the occlusal vertical distance decreases, from normal occlusal vertical distance change reaches 1. Omm and above there is a significant difference (p LT; 0.05). Standardized before the temporalis muscle bundle smaller EMG amplitude changes only if the changes in the vertical distance reached 3.Omm significant differences (p lt; 0.05) 3, the temporalis muscle before the beam EMG / bite force bite muscle electrical / bite force ratio decreases with increasing vertical distance from changes in the normal occlusal vertical reach 1.Omm and above, the masseter EMG / bite force ratio significant difference (p lt; 0.05). Reduced the vertical distance from the normal occlusion the 2.0mm or increase 1.Omm and more, before the beam temporalis muscle EMG / bite force appear significant difference (p lt; 0.05) Conclusion With the the occlusal vertical distance increases, toothless the orthognathic patients can play bite force gradually increases the normal occlusal vertical distance is not to generate maximum bite force in the region. Not consider the effects of the bite force size, with the the occlusal vertical distance increases, the masseter EMG activity decreased beam before the temporalis muscle EMG activity changes are not obvious and masseter. After the introduction of the bite force factors masseter EMG / bite force temporalis muscle EMG activity before the beam / bite force ratios were decreased with the increase of the occlusal vertical distance. The normal occlusal vertical near a stable area, maximum bite force in edentulous patients can play in this stability in the region, EMG activity of masseter temporalis muscle before the beam is not a significant change.
